A Home Energy Rater can provide a miles-per-gallon number to your new home before construction begins. The ENERGY STAR Program requires that a high enough energy rating be achieved that the home will use 30% less energy for heating and cooling than the base comparison house.
If a builder includes the ENERGY EDGE, and includes several items such as high efficiency heating or air conditioning equipment, foundation insulation, or high performance windows, he can earn the ENERGY STAR certification.
